Kate Elizabete Kanasta

Counsellor of the Ministry of Defence to the EU Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia

Kate Elizabete Kanasta is an experienced civil servant and diplomat from Latvia, currently serving as a Defence Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU. Her previous role was as Deputy Head of the Cybersecurity Policy Coordination Section at the Latvian Ministry of Defence, where Kate’s responsibilities included drafting the National Cybersecurity Strategy and supervising its implementation, coordinating crisis management procedures, and enhancing international cooperation.

Kate is currently pursuing her PhD in political science, specializing in security studies with a focus on emerging and disruptive technologies. She has taught a variety of international relations courses at the University of Latvia, Riga Graduate School of Law, and the National Defence Academy.

Kate is a co-editor and one of the authors of the new book “Cybersecurity in Latvia: Forging Resilience amidst Emerging Threats”.
