Yasushi Masaki, a Japanese national, became Deputy Secretary-General of the OECD in 2025. His portfolio spans Trade and Agriculture, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Financial and Enterprise Affairs, and he serves as the OECD representative to the Financial Stability Board. He oversees the Organisation’s work on digital transformation and artificial intelligence, as well as initiatives on infrastructure and trade, while supporting strengthened OECD engagement across the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Masaki brings over four decades of experience from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he held senior roles including Director of the WTO Dispute Settlement Division, Director of multiple legal and economic divisions, and Deputy Director-General of the Economic Affairs Bureau with responsibility for OECD affairs and major Free Trade Agreement negotiations, including RCEP. He later served as Director-General for European Affairs and as Ambassador to the European Union and to Indonesia. He began his career in 1984 after studying law at the University of Tokyo and ENA.
