Bridging industry and academia data gap – the human side of it
Telecoms, connected devices, and other technologies processes generate an ever-increasing amount of data and increasingly depend on them. The value of smooth data flow and secure use by various parties is widely recognized.
While policies and solutions emphasize the importance of technologies, data structures, and regulations, real-world data use often raises complex human questions of understanding, trust, concerns, and interests.
These questions are especially relevant to science, considering its experimental nature that often asks for non-standard data and flexible procedures. Their complexity might deter both professors and data holders from even trying.
This workshop, hosted by the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science in collaboration with the Latvian Higher Education and Science IT Shared Service Centre, brings together data holders, researchers, policymakers, and experts.
We’ll delve into non-technical challenges and concerns related to data use in academia, such as building trust between parties, developing procedures and contracts, and fostering understanding to allow flexible yet secure data use for experimental needs.
Through expert introductions and interactive discussions, we’ll explore challenges, think about solutions to them, and outline actionable steps.
During the workshop you will:
- Hear expert presentations;
- Participate in working groups, focusing on non-technical concerns, issues, and potential solutions from every perspective;
- Present the conclusions and hear expert feedback.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge, by invitation. Please e-mail Kaspars Berzins if interested:
