Consumer Protection Roundtable: Taking Stock Ahead of the Digital Fairness Act

The EU holds the most comprehensive consumer protection framework in the world. The upcoming Digital Fairness Act (DFA), expected in Q4 2026, reflects the European Commission’s effort to address remaining gaps in European consumer law. But it also raises important questions: How do we ensure this initiative complements rather than duplicates existing instruments? And how do we preserve strong consumer protection while delivering on the EU’s broader goals of simplification and competitiveness?

This roundtable brings together senior representatives from Nordic-Baltic and European governments, industry representative organizations and leading technology companies to engage in a honest, off-the-record exchange on the future of consumer policy in Europe, where the collaboration of industry, regulators and consumers is key. Discussions will draw on relevant policy files including the DFA, the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD), the CPC Regulation, the e-Commerce Directive, and the DSA, as well as cross-cutting themes such as minor protection, age verification, and the role of social media platforms in the consumer landscape.

Why should you attend:

This is a rare opportunity to engage in a frank, high-level conversation with peers from both government and industry on one of the most consequential upcoming EU legislative files. Participants will have the chance to share their national and sectoral perspectives ahead of the DFA’s publication, contribute to shaping industry positions, and explore where alignment between the public and private sector is possible.

Who should attend:

  • Governmental and regulatory representatives from the Nordic-Baltic region and any other EU country
  • Technology companies operating in B2C environments in Europe
  • Other parties interested in the consumer protection agenda of the EU

Preliminary agenda:

  • Part 1 – introduction and presentations by regulators, industry representative organizations, companies and lawmakers present.
  • Part 2 – moderated roundtable discussion.
