Securing Tomorrow’s Digital Infrastructure: Quantum, Timing and Standards

Digital security depends on more than protecting data and networks. Reliable connectivity also requires precise timing: mobile networks use synchronised clocks to coordinate their operations, while disruption to satellite-based timing can expose critical infrastructure to risk. At the same time, quantum technologies are moving from research towards real-world infrastructure, bringing new questions about standards, interoperability and security.

This side event brings these developments together from a Latvian and European perspective. Short presentations will examine Latvia’s role in quantum technology standardisation, including work relevant to ETSI; the development of the quantum internet and open-access research infrastructure; and the role of atomic clocks in resilient network timing.

Proposed programme themes

  • Policy perspective: digital security and quantum technologies in today’s geopolitical environment
  • Quantum technology standards and Latvia’s participation in international standardisation
  • Quantum internet research and Compatibility facilities
  • Atomic clocks, precise timing and resilience when satellite signals are disrupted

Format

A series of short presentations followed by a Q&A and discussion with the experts.

Who should attend

Policymakers, public authorities, telecommunications and critical infrastructure operators, researchers, standardisation experts and organisations working on quantum technologies and digital security.
