Aigars Benders has served as Technical Director of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT), Latvia, since 2013. He leads mobile network technology strategy, development and operations, advancing network modernization and the adoption of new technologies. His work includes the evolution toward cloud-native infrastructure and 5G/6G services, strengthening network reliability and operational flexibility. He also explores the potential of non-terrestrial networks (NTN) to complement terrestrial mobile networks.
Before joining LMT, he held technical and commercial leadership roles across Europe and Asia. At Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks, he held senior sales and key account management positions, including Head of Central Asia and Country Director for Ukraine. As Chief Technical Officer of Ncell, part of TeliaSonera, he led mobile network rollout and operations in Nepal. He subsequently served as Project Director for several businesses in Asia.
He holds an MSc in Telecommunications Engineering from Riga Technical University and an Executive MBA from the University of Salford, UK.
